A vibrant white star that featured heavily in Orian heraldry and belief until shortly before the ritual, al-Kaniali was said to be the origins of all magic. Its name translates to "Grand Dreamer" in the old Orian language. It was rarely seen in the sky due to having a seemingly erratic and random progression through the sky; only the most dedicated of astronomers could come close to predicting when al-Kaniali might be visible next. Consequently, being born during a night when al-Kaniali was visible in the sky was seen as a sign of good luck and fortune.
Approximately fourteen years before the ritual, the star was banned from Orian heraldry due to its association with Dokani the Necromancer, who was born when al-Kaniali was at the highest point in the sky.
