Though socially four-fingered, Anik the Temple-Tender has all five of her fingers by virtue of the delicate temple work she does. Apparently growing up far from the capital and living something of a sheltered life as an acolyte, she's accompanied by her childhood friend Thaltrazd the Virtuoso whenever she goes afar for some kind of exciting adventure. She aspires to make her mark on the world and make good use of her divine powers, though her selfishness can get in the way of any potentially altruistic inclinations she might feel.
Background[]
Anik always felt that, despite her talent for divine magic, she grew up in her older brother's shadow. To make matters worse, her parents regularly commended her for her growth as a cleric and seemed to talk up her abilities to those they knew. In Anik's mind, this was tremendously at odds with everything else they did. After all, if Anik were the one with superior potential for magic and accomplishing great things, why was it her brother who was set to inherit everything their parents had? Even after Anik started forging her own identity and relationships with others, she still felt the sting of doubt about whether or not she would actually be able to accomplish her dreams of getting what she "deserved" on account of her hard work and the skills she had tirelessly toiled to cultivate.
When she was thirteen, she and Thaltrazd the Virtuoso became proper friends, both finding an odd kinsmanship in the other despite being near-opposites. Where Thaltrazd was more the type to live day-to-day, Anik preferred to plan things out in advance, and Anik found herself drawn to Thaltrazd's easygoing nature for reasons she herself couldn't truly pin down. The two regularly came up with schemes to get Anik away from her responsibilities back home, sneaking away and having small-scale adventures of sorts. The two continued this for quite some time until they decided to go a bit farther afield after hearing about the chaos in Ko-Mauraios due to the death of its recently-appointed lord. Sensing a mystery, and perhaps hoping to claim some fame for solving this mystery independent of her family, Anik suggested the two investigate. As they always had, they snuck away from their homes near the capital, this time traveling far to the borders shared with Gralshad.
