The impish young Yami Mitra holds little regard for authority and law. She is a rapscallion at even the best of times, going out of her way to defy the rules set in place by those in power, even if doing so puts herself or her companions in danger. Despite her rebellious nature, she has a strong sense of right and wrong, and believes firmly in the perhaps juvenile notion of integrity and goodness triumphing without fail over injustice and wrongdoing. Though Yami will fervently deny anything more than minor involvement in both morality and mischief, it is clear from the admiration in her tone when she recounts tales of heroism which side of the cosmic scale she finds more appealing.

Background[]

As the equivalent of modern nobility, Yami held no desire for the affluence or power afforded to her by her birth. She had very little interest in her family's business of designing and creating robotic prostheses, and failed to show enthusiasm for the craft even when reminded that much of her right side, including her arm, chest cavity, and several organs, were developed by the Mitra Foundation. So great was her disregard for not only the company itself, but for her imminent administration duties within it, that her parents conceived and constructed a sentient robot specifically for the purpose of reining in their wayward daughter.

But Yami was not so easily cowed. She quickly learned to outsmart her parentally-instated overseer, tricking him into allowing her to continue to break her parents' rules under his watchful gaze. She even began to mockingly call him Saiyu, a name that means literally 'ocean moron' in Bhachebh, her own mildly factual -- if incredibly childish -- reference to his bright coloration and benign disposition.

On a so-called supervised misadventure with the robot, Yami was subjected to some manner of magical anomaly. Though she emerged unharmed except for a glowing diamond mark on her left palm, it was only by virtue of Saiyu's reactive programming that she survived the mishap at all. After the incident, she was taken into protective custody by the first responders, a group known as the Phoenix Guard. Though at first she was loathe to assist her captors when they called upon her and the other affected parties for aide, as time passed, Yami began to realize that perhaps the Phoenix Guard, much like her faithful companion Saiyu and the chaotic art of engineering, were not as deserving of ridicule as she had once believed.
