Once a small territory, the Borderlands between Sualtorre and Manhoush have only grown since they were created. The Borderlands were originally founded as a midpoint between the wandering kannar people and the rest of "civilized" Gerualdi to the north; however, as borders are redrawn, and with the lack of strong centralized governments in Manhoush to stand against the rulings, the Borderlands have since grown into a prosperous economy in and of themselves. In particular, the Borderlands have been encroaching on the mountains in Alevos in hopes of uncovering some rare, untapped source of income in mining or hunting.

Inhabitants of the Borderlands feel as though it is a right to have access to whatever parts of Manhoush the natives "aren't using," particularly as they could theoretically take all of Manhoush if they so desired. The kannar drift-bands that congregate in Alevos, however, are less than thrilled with their neighbors, and they take advantage of Alevos' membership with the Gerualdi Union to prevent violence from breaking out over the desired territory. By simply camping out in areas where Borderlands explorers seek to take for themselves, development is stalled -- sometimes indefinitely, as "communing with gods," as the kannars put it, can take a very long time.
